Brian
Fullen has been a veteran drummer
in the Nashville music scene for several years, including world
tours with SheDaisy, Shania Twain, Bob Carlisle, Peter Frampton,
Allies and The Imperials. He has also performed extensively
with the artists Vince Gill, Sierra, Larry Carlton, Andy
Griggs, Jamie Slocum, Lorrie Morgan, Paul Brandt, Tracy Nelson,
Pete Huttlinger (www.petehuttlinger.com)
and Identical Strangers, among others. As a first call
session musician, he keeps a busy recording schedule, playing
on hundreds of tracks each year. His versatility as a drummer
and percussionist has landed him recording dates with top artists
such as Bob Carlisle, Kathy Mattea, Mark Collie, hit
record producer David Z., John Berry, SheDaisy, Jamie Slocum,
Aubrey Collins, legendary blues artist Tracy Nelson,
Identical Strangers, Allies, The Nobody's, Word Records, United
Methodist Publishing, Sony, Curb, MCA, Provident, BMG and
EMI Music Groups. He can also be heard on the Jack Frost
movie soundtrack, commercials for the Fox Network, Chevrolet,
The Wild Horse Saloon and UPN, among others.
Born
and raised in Columbus, Ohio, Brian
began studying music at an early age. At 15, he became
very busy playing drums professionally, and in 1979
entered Capital University, studying under Bob Breithaupt.
While actively performing in three of the Capital University's
ensembles, he won awards at the Ohio State University
and Cuyahoga Community College jazz festivals. After
completing his studies at Capital, Fullen served as
the house drummer for Gracewood Recording and Production
Studios, playing on several national jingle spots and
album projects.
Fullen
received his Master of Arts degree in 1987 from the
University of Memphis, where he served as graduate teaching
assistant in the Commercial Music Department under Frank
Shafer and Gene Rush. While in Memphis, he performed
with the legendary Carl Perkins, played many recording
sessions, worked with the Memphis, Jackson, and Tupelo
Symphony Orchestras, and was nominated for a NARAS award.
As
an educator, Fullen has authored two critically acclaimed
books, Bass Drum Essentials
for the Drumset, an excellent new book released
by Alfred Publishing at PASIC 2001 (co-authored with
Dave Black), and Contemporary
Country Styles for the Drummer and Bassist
(Alfred Pub.) which received 4½ out of 5 stars
in Modern Drummer Magazine. He has been featured
in The Zildjian Times, various Yamaha Publications,
and is a contributing author to Modern Drummer
and Percussive Notes magazines. He teaches part-time
at Belmont University in Nashville and regularly performs
clinics across the country, including two Percussive
Arts Society Convention appearances (PASIC '96 and '01).
